How to Replace the Battery in a Key Finder

A key finder with dead batteries can not work. As the battery weakens, the range on the key finder gets shorter, and its signal and alarm weaken. Replacing the battery in a key finder is a simple process and should happen frequently to ensure that the key finder continues working optimally.
First: Locate the battery compartment
There are two styles of battery compartments common to key finders: back compartments and side compartments. Back compartments screw onto the key finder; when removing the screw, the whole back of the key fob comes off. Side compartments slide in and out of the edge of the key finder. Some swing open like a door, and others pull out completely.
Second: Remove the battery compartment
If the back of the key fob forms the battery compartment, use a small screwdriver, remove the back and the screw and set them aside. Take care not to lose either, because you need to put them both back. If the side of the key fob pulls out, hook the edge of the battery compartment with either your nail or a small flat screwdriver, and pull it out.
Third: Remove and replace the battery
Remove the battery from the battery compartment. Pay special attention to how and where the battery goes and which side faces up. In most cases, the positive side of the battery, or the battery back, faces out. Replace the old battery with a new one. Dispose of the old battery in a safe manner, ensuring that small children cannot get a hold of it. They are extremely dangerous if swallowed.
Fourth: Put the battery compartment back on
Replace the battery cover or compartment the same way it came off. Tighten all screws, and make sure that it fits back together well and that all the parts seem secured. Reprogram the key finder according to the manufacturer's directions if necessary.
